MONDAY, SEPT. 30

Today your child brought home his/her red "Home Learning" folder.  Every night your child should read for 10-15 minutes and practice math facts and spelling words for 5 minutes.  The spelling lists are posted on the side of the blog.  Please encourage your child to record his/her home learning minutes in the folder, and then sign to confirm your child's home learning minutes.

Please review and discuss your child's "physical goal" (in his/her black duotang).

In science today we did an experiment called "Silly Salt" to learn how volume relates to the size of sound waves.  Please ask your child to describe what happened to the salt when they made a loud sound and when they made a quiet sound.

Thank you for all your support with your child's learning!

What a fun day of learning in Room 4!  We all ran like the wind, in the 1/2 hour Terry Fox run.  We showed perseverance and courage.  "Coins for Courage" will be extended to Monday - please bring your donations in support of cancer research.  Parents, please review with your child the Terry Fox Goal Sheet in his/her black Health duotang, in the zip-folder.  Please check and edit (alongside your child) for upper case letters, full sentences and periods.  Please ensure that your child brings the duotang back to school on Monday. In health, we discussed what makes us angry and brainstormed safe ways to express anger. Ask your child to share some keypoints from our discussions and posters.

*A reminder to double-check that your son/daughter is returning the zip folder each day, as we send notices and reminders on a regular basis.  Enjoy the weekend!

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 25

We are very excited about our trip to Fish Creek Park tomorrow to study plant communities!  We would like to extend a very big thank you to our parent volunteers who are making this trip possible.  The high for tomorrow is only 9 degrees Celsius (and we will spend most of the day outdoors), so please make sure that your child dresses in layers and brings a warm jacket.  With all the fresh air and exercise your child is likely to work up a big appetite, so please send a healthy lunch, water bottle and plenty of snacks!

Coins for Change:  Please remember to send in coins for the Terry Fox Run!

Today your child will be bringing home a Dental Bag of Goodies.  In health the students reviewed dental hygiene and practiced brushing and flossing their teeth.

MONDAY, SEPT. 23

It was wonderful to meet so many parents at the parent teacher interviews last week!  We appreciate the information that you shared with us.  It will help us teach your children and meet their needs.  If you were unable to come in last week, please phone or e-mail us so that we can arrange to meet at another time.

Our annual Terry Fox Run (Coins for Courage) is coming up on Friday, September 27th at 9:30 am.  Students are asked to donate change (coins) for cancer research.  The donations are voluntary and will be collected each morning.  All students will participate in the run on Friday morning.

Please remember to complete the Fish Creek field trip forms and send them back to school as soon as possible!

Please ask your child to share RAZ Kids and Wordle with you.  RAZ Kids is an excellent site for children to practice reading and comprehension at their own level.

Your child may have chosen to bring home a reader by David Booth last week.  We are no longer using these at school, but your child is encouraged to keep it at home and use it for daily reading.
